When he became a full-fledged volunteer for Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s emergency services, he arrived at the home of Maria Schechtman, an elderly Holocaust survivor, who had died alone one night. Chananel Vaknin, a 7th grader at the AMIT High School in Maale Adumim, suffers from a rare lung disease. His classmates decided to buy him an electric mobility scooter as part of a school project. The students raised more than NIS 15,000. They used the extra funds to install a special mode so that he could use the scooter on Shabbat.
