AMIT Sderot Students Step Up for Their Community

While many schools focus this time of year on preparing for tests, AMIT Sderot Comprehensive High School chose to teach a different kind of lesson — one in giving.

A group of seventh-grade students, led by their homeroom teacher Sapir Azran, visited the city’s community kindness center to take part in a meaningful hands-on activity. Together, they packed Shabbat food packages for local families in need.

The students worked with focus and teamwork, driven by a strong sense of responsibility and care for others. They were proud to bring dignity and warmth to families ahead of Shabbat.

The experience left a deep impression on the students. “It was one of the rare days when I felt we weren’t just students,” shared Shay Li Oved. “We were people doing something good.”

Every two weeks, students from the school will volunteer at the kindness center, strengthening their connection to the community while learning responsibility, empathy, and the lasting power of giving.

"Volunteering helps students understand that education does not end in the classroom. It continues in human connection. As a teacher, there is no more powerful moment than seeing students realize that their hearts can be a tool for change.”
