Yeshivat AMIT Eliraz Students Shine at Film Contest

This unique competition is judged by students and gives young Israeli filmmakers the chance to see their stories come alive.

In an exciting first, two films from 12th-grade students at Yeshivat AMIT Eliraz High School, a religious high school for boys in Petach Tikvah, have advanced to the finals of the “Yud Alef VeChetzi, Eleven and a Half” High School Student Film Contest at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.

Film instructor Elad Mokdes praised the students: “These boys have lived through COVID and war and still found a way to tell fresh, real stories that resonate. Their voices are unique and authentic, and seeing their work on the big screen will be an unforgettable moment.”

The film finalists are:

“Together” Created by Ido Gabay (director), Mulia Kassia (cinematographer), and Ilay Danino (editor), all seniors, this authentic and emotional film takes viewers into the garage of Yaakov Gabay, Ido’s father. Between fixing cars and joining a project grilling for soldiers, the film explores the delicate balance of criticism, love, and connection in a father–son relationship with moments that are tender, real, and humorous.

“Tal the Coach” Created by seniors Shai Lelei and Aviad Negatu, who also handled the cinematography, this film follows Tal, a beloved sports teacher and professional coach, as he works to build a competitive soccer team in the yeshiva. It’s a powerful story about discipline, mentorship, and the ability to connect education and values through sports.

This past year we’ve reached new heights in creativity and the arts, thanks to the leadership of our talented arts staff, Tzofnat and Elad. They guided the students to create these incredible debut films from a place of deep connection. This is what it means to bring tikkun olam — repair and meaning— into the creative lives of our students and graduates.”
