Students from Ulpanat AMIT Haifa came to spend time with women evacuated from Kiryat Shmona, many of whom have been living away from home for months, dealing with uncertainty and constant disruption.
As participants were dancing and sharing joy, the sirens began. Everyone moved quickly to the shelter as explosions were heard overhead.
But inside the shelter, though the atmosphere shifted, the singing and dancing continued and the connection remained.
“I received more strength from them than I gave,” said Michal, a ninth grade student. “Seeing how strong they are, even in that situation, is something you can’t learn in a classroom.”
For more than a year and a half, these students have been consistently supporting people from displaced communities, from young children to the elderly. These young women have built real relationships, learning from those who helped build the State of Israel, and starting to understand what it means to carry that forward.
