Thank You for Giving

I love Thanksgiving! Partly, it’s seeing people we don’t celebrate with regularly (not this year). Partly, it’s that I don’t have to rush to finish since its a casual start time. Partly, it’s that no one in my family really cares about which college teams win or lose, so no one goes crazy. But mostly, it’s the simple “Thanksgiving” prompt that makes us ask everyone at our table to give thanks for something they especially appreciate.

AMIT Students Serve Community During COVID Lockdown

Continuing the AMIT tradition of caring for those in the community, the 12th grade students at Yeshivat AMIT B’Levav Shalem in Yerucham are helping out during these dire times. This past Rosh Hashana marked the second coronavirus lockdown in Israel. Nearly all 60 12th graders answered the call to provide aid and comfort by volunteering; in this case, they packaged about 500 food baskets for the Yerucham elderly in need.

Bringing Good Cheer & Treats to Home-Bound Students

Now that the lockdown is over and Israelis can move about outside of their homes, but schools are not yet open for in-person learning, the administration of AMIT Wasserman Torah, Arts and Sciences Junior and Senior High School for Girls in Maaleh Adumim decided to get creative in their outreach to their home-bound students. They rented an ice cream cart and walked around the city’s neighborhoods, handing out ice cream treats to students, teachers and teachers’ children. They also distributed Parashat HaShavua worksheets for students to discuss around their families’ Shabbat tables, and kits for a mother-daughter activity centered on the upcoming yartzheit of Rachel Emanu (Rachel the Matriarch).
