AMIT Israel Spotlight Session #2: AMIT’s Community of Co-Ed and Secular Schools – Bridging Divides, Building Community

In preparation for summer vacation, the ninth graders at AMIT Bellows Ulpanat Noga, Beit Shemesh organized a local summer festival, in which all the proceeds were donated to the organization Et Laasot to benefit children with special needs.

The 6th grade girls at AMIT Noam in Kfar Batya, Raanana chose to celebrate the end of their elementary school studies together with the residents of the Amal Senior Cititzens’ home in Raanana.

Music students at the AMIT Bienenfeld Hevruta Yeshiva in Kfar Batya, Ra’anana held their end-of-the-year concert last week.

As summer vacation approaches, Tzuriel Robbins, principal of the AMIT B’Levav Shalem Yeshiva in Yerucham, shares a special social initiative of youth in the city of Yerucham.

Students from AMIT Eliraz Jr. and Sr. High School for boys in Petach Tikva participated in the “Blink of the Eye” project, a social cinema project for youth sponsored by the Culture Department of the US Embassy.

Chananel Vaknin, a 7th grader at the AMIT Jr. and Sr. High School in Maale Adumim, will finally be able to enjoy the freedom of summer vacation. Chananel suffers from a complicated and rare lung disease. Chananel’s classmates decided to surprise him and to raise money to buy him an electric mobility scooter.

The national average of Israelis passing the matriculation exams is 70%, but as Liz explains, “AMIT sets the standard even higher, by having 85% of our kids pass the bagrut—something that we are really proud of and that we devote incredible resources to, to make sure it happens.”

Students from the electronics track of the AMIT Ofek Technological School won second place in a national competition held at Tel Aviv University under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and the Faculty of Engineering at Tel Aviv University.

The students of the AMIT Gould Hallel Jr. and Sr. High School for Girls in Rehovot participated this year in a course on women’s empowerment.

Once known as the “Red Jail” for its color and troubled student body, today AMIT Hammer for boys is a very different place—and not only because the school was painted.

The school has an impressive 100% bagrut rate, which is even more significant when considering the wide mix of students’ religious, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.

The yeshiva focuses on academic excellence along with love of Torah, Israel and one’s fellow man, and strives to install a religious Zionist identity in its students. The results are impressive: a 95% bagrut rate.

Consisting of a middle school and a boarding yeshiva high school for boys in the desert town of Yerucham, B’Levav Shalem has seen enrollment double in the past three years, to 342 students.

Students in 9th grade from AMIT Kfar Ganim in Petach Tikva raised money and packed more than 150 food packages for poor people before Pesach.

AMIT Florin Taman Junior and Senior Hight School for Boys won the prestigious SpaceLab competition, run by the Ramon Foundation. Their project experiment will be tested in outer space! The school is located in the Northern most part of Israel, and many of the students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Given the location of the school and some of the challenges the students and their families face, this achievement is all the more impressive. Over 100 teams participated in the competition and 17 reached the finals, of whom four were chosen as winners of the competition including the AMIT Tzfat team.

AMIT President Audrey Axelrod Trachtman recently appeared on an i24 News broadcast and spoke about the innovative 21st-century educational approach AMIT has implemented throughout our 104 schools in Israel. In partnership with the American Zionist Movement, the i24 News broadcast featured several Zionist organizations.

March and April 2020 saw the early, chaotic days of Coronavirus in Israel. The country and especially medical staff experienced a dangerous shortage of protective equipment and masks. In the south, the AMIT B’Levav Shalem Robotics Team in Yeruham decided to partner with the Yeruham Science Center to help solve the problem—by producing masks themselves.
