Aviad Sinvani, an 8th grade student at the AMIT Gwen Straus Jr. & Sr. Science High School for Boys in Kfar Batya, Ra’anana, is the first place winner of the national Mishnayot competition run by the Ministry of Education. The contest was held this week in Lod, during which students from around the country were tested on a wide variety of mishnayot, for which they had to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency. Aviad impressed the judges with his precise answers throughout the competition.
Aviad, who prepared for the competition under the guidance of AMIT teacher Rabbi Daniel Bialik, reached the national stage after succeeding in the previous stages of the competition – school-wide, city-wide, and district.
Aviad commented, “The most important thing that I gained from the learning in general and from the competition in particular is the importance of taking the principles of the Rabbis in the Mishnah and applying them to my own personal life, to relate the wisdom that is learned from mishnayot to today’s world.”
Rabbi Yoni Sharvit, Jr. High principal at AMIT Gwen Straus, congratulated Aviad on the achievement and especially on the great investment in learning: “Throughout the year, many voluntary extra-curricular programs of Torah study are held at the school. The participation of our student in the national mishnayot competition is another expression of the aspiration for personal and Torah empowerment”.
