Education Minister Rav Rafi Peretz visited AMIT Ashkelon Bet Jr. and Sr. High School recently, telling the students how impressed he was by their high rates of volunteerism and enlistment in the army. Those values are the foundation for excellence and success, he said.
Peretz opened a memorial ceremony in honor of AMIT Bet alumnus Yovel Mor Yosef, z”l, who was killed in a terrorist attack in December 2018 while serving in the IDF.
Moti Mor Yosef, Yovel’s father, spoke at the emotional event and thanked the school for honoring his son by instilling the students there with the values he held dear—giving of one’s self and contributing to society. Peretz stood by his side as he spoke and gave him a supportive embrace as he started to tear up.
Peretz said that Yovel Mor Yosef defended the state of Israel and the values he believed in. “We are all obligated to follow in Yovel’s spirit of contribution and dedication, including me,” said Peretz.
Following the ceremony, Peretz toured the school with Ashkelon Mayor Tomer Glam and heard from the faculty about their mission of helping each child fulfill his or her potential. Glam told the administrators that he would do his utmost to support the school and help all of its students succeed.
Then they met with students, and Peretz praised the school’s nearly 100% enlistment rate, telling them that the school’s education—which is based on Jewish values, giving back to the community, the state, and Israeli society—is the foundation for excellence and success.
