Two AMIT students won the prestigious Ilan Ramon Award for Excellence and Leadership this summer. Sharona Passin of AMIT Wasserman High School in Beer Sheva and Shachar Kriaf of AMIT Ginsburg Bar Ilan Gush Dan in Ramat Gan were among twelve teens from across the country who received this honor. These young people received the award from Rona Ramon who established the Ramon Young Leadership Foundation in memory of her husband Ilan Ramon and her son Assaf Ramon. The Ramon Foundation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science, Technology & Space, honors students each year who are exceptional leaders and agents of social change. Winners receive a scholarship and the opportunity to participate in a unique program that gives them the tools to enhance their leadership abilities.
Sharona Passin is an outstanding student and a natural leader at school and in the community, and she received the award for leading and taking an active role in volunteering in Beer Sheva. She is the coordinator of a local youth movement for children and youth with disabilities and volunteered in many shelters in the city to assist the elderly and children during Operation Protective Edge.
Shachar Kriaf is the chairman of the Ramat Gan student council and received the award for leading impressive fundraising events at his school to raise money for children with cancer. This year the event raised over one hundred thousand shekels for pediatric cancer patients. In addition, Shachar initiated and led an annual hike for hundreds of teens in memory of the three teens Naftali Frenkel, Gilad Shaer, and Eyal Yifrah. Shachar was chosen to speak at the award ceremony on behalf of all the recipients. “This program has made it possible for us to meet with Knesset members, public figures, business leaders and social activists, and has deepened our commitment to continue to lead and influence Israeli society,” said Shachar.
