Israel’s Ministry of Education has publicly recognized 277 junior and senior high schools throughout Israel for their integrity, values and achievement. Winning schools were those that had the most improvement compared to the previous year, and not necessarily schools with the highest achievements. Schools were judged according to a number of criteria, including matriculation success; academic integrity; immigrant absorption; social activism and drop-out prevention; inclusion of special education students; and army and national service enlistment rates. The ranking is tiered, and teachers in winning schools received bonuses according to where their school placed in the four rankings.
Three AMIT schools made it into the highest ranking: Yeshivat AMIT Amichai in Rehovot; AMIT Kamah in Yerucham; and AMIT Yud Ashdod.
Ten additional AMIT schools were chosen for this prestigious list: Ulpanat AMIT Anna Teich in Haifa; AMIT Ramle Technological High School; Yeshivat AMIT Eliraz in Petach Tikva; AMIT Karmiel; AMIT Wasserman Beer Sheva; AMIT Hatzor HaGlilit; Ulpanat AMIT Dyckman in Beer Sheva; AMIT Shachar in Beit Shemesh; AMIT Gutwirth in Sderot; and AMIT Sderot Religious High School.
Just as this list was published, a rocket launched by Gaza Strip terrorists landed in Sderot. “The most appropriate response to the threat of terrorism is investment in the future of our children,” said Alon Davidi, mayor of Sderot, where both high schools were recognized for their integrity.
Dr. Amnon Eldar, Director General of the AMIT Network, said that the results are heartening. “In the spirit of Klal Yisrael, AMIT’s Educational Communities of Learning strive to realize all their students’ potential and promote excellence,” said Dr. Eldar.
