Three students from AMIT Yehuda Junior and Senior High School are taking part in a special summer program at Tel Aviv University geared specifically toward children from Israel’s periphery.
The three boys, all 11th-graders at the AMIT school in Afula, passed the entrance exams and were selected out of dozens of candidates that applied for the unique program.
Some 60 high school students from across Israel are enrolling in the university’s summer semester. They will be taking university-level courses in the humanities and social sciences departments.
The aim of this program is to expose students to the world of academia and help level the playing field for children across Israel. Studies have shown that students who gain experience with higher education during their high school years have less anxiety and fears about successfully pursuing academic studies. It also gives them a positive view of higher education and enables them to believe they can succeed in obtaining higher degrees.
The students taking part in this special program will receive credits toward their future academic studies. They will also serve as “ambassadors” of higher education and role models within their communities.
The AMIT community wishes them great success and hopes they will pave the way for additional students in Afula to take part in similar excellence programs.
