Like all things that were abruptly interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, the year in Israel for Midreshet AMIT students ended in March. The students left Israel and went back home. But their learning didn’t stop. The students continued studying with their rabbis and teachers via Zoom from thousands of miles away. The distance didn’t shake the warm connection they developed for one another or the profound impact Midreshet AMIT had on their lives.
In this four-part blog series, Midreshet AMIT student Ariella Berman shares her Reflections on the AMIT Staff.
By Ariella Berman
I don’t think I’ve fully processed that the year is over. Being at home has given me a lot of time to think and reflect on this year. I think back to the beginning of seminary, when we were all nervous and didn’t know what to expect. I then think of all of the learning and growth we have all accomplished. That leads me to think about all of the events and activities that took place. Including chaggim, shabbatonim, Beit Hayeled activities, or just plain old holy bagel breakfasts. When remembering all of these great times, there is one thing in common with all of them – the administration who put it all together. This year would not have been remotely possible without our caring, dedicated, warm administration.
Whether it’s Mrs. (Ilana) Gottlieb asking for pictures to post on the Instagram, or Barbs telling us “ladies” to go to class, or Rav G. telling us about another WhatsApp group in shiur klali, they were always present and available whenever needed. All of their offices were always open to us for advice, guidance, or just a plain schmooze. We cannot even fathom what planning a whole year is like, or tending to all of our many, many needs. Thank you for listening to our complaints, cries, and laughter. We could not ask for any better.
In addition to our amazing administration, every teacher at Midreshet AMIT deserves recognition. To all of our wonderful Rabbeim: Rav Rafi, Rav Ari, Rav Eitan, Rav Aaron, Rav Amos, Rav Wexler, Rav Jonny, we want to thank you for everything you taught us this year. Not only did we soak up every Torah thought from you, but we were able to look up to all of you as role models and aspire to attain your middot. And to Mrs. Fischer, Malka, Nili, Sepha, Dara, Aliza, Geula, Adina, Kollel ladies, and our madrichot, having such amazing women to be able to relate to as teachers, but also wives and mothers, was a tremendous honor for all of us, and we have all learned so much from you.
If someone were to ask me what makes Midreshet AMIT different from any other seminary, I would say that we have the most caring and loving staff out there. Not only were you there to teach us and guide us, but I think we can all say we have developed such special relationships to the point where we hope to stay in touch beyond Midreshet AMIT. Thank you for all you have done for us and continue to do. Next year’s girls are so lucky to have you.
