Empowering AMIT Girls to Think Big

AMIT Wasserman Torah, Arts and Sciences High School for Girls, Maaleh Adumim students participated in Google Israel’s prestigious program designed to help young women advance in the field of high-tech in 2019. These AMIT students were selected to present their innovative initiative and technology to the CEO of Google Israel, Israel Knesset members and leaders in Israel’s tech industry.

This is the second year in a row where students from the AMIT girl’s high school in Maaleh Adumim were selected to participate in this unique program called “Mind the Gap” whose purpose is to help girls advance in computer and science-based tracks and to ultimately increase the number of women working in the professional industry.

Often, in the periphery and in more traditional or lower socio-economic communities, even when girls do extremely well in high school, there is not a strong push for them to attend university. As a result, some incredibly talented young women are forced to take low-paying jobs and cannot climb out of the cycle of poverty. These types of programs are encouraging girls to think about pursuing high-level careers and empowering them to think big.

Under the guidance of the entrepreneurship and excellence program coordinator at the school, Dina Handler, the students met with Google Israel CEO, Barak Regev, and Minister Gila Gamliel who were impressed from the girls’ broad technological knowledge gained from their studies at the AMIT Wasserman school.
