A group of 11th-grade students at AMIT Yud Ashdod organized a special bar mitzvah celebration for three boys whose families could not afford the milestone Jewish event.
With the help of a mentor from the Ma’agalim program, which is an Israeli nonprofit organization that empowers 11th and 12th grade students in Israel’s periphery and helps them undergo a process of personal growth, the AMIT students planned and executed the event from A to Z.
They raised funds and got volunteers to help them provide special outfits for the boys and pay for a D.J., photographer, magnet photo keepsakes, as well as helped prepare the food and serve it to guests. They even rented a limousine to transport the bar mitzvah boys to the event hall where their special occasion was held.
When the party was over, the Yud Ashdod students stayed to clean up the hall—and they did all of this during their bagrut exam season, giving everyone a lesson in Jewish values.
