Rabbi Yisrael Ohayon of the Amit Ashdod Yeshiva is among the six winners of the “Teacher of the State” competition, and the only winner of the state religious education system.
At the ceremony, the winners of the “Teacher of the Nation” competition were sponsored by the Teachers’ Union, Mifal Hapayis and Yedioth Ahronoth. The winners were awarded certificates of appreciation, laptops, and prestigious courses in the United States. Rabbi Ohayon, Rosh Yeshiva and a teacher of religious subjects at the Amit Ashdod Yeshiva, received high praise during the ceremony from his students and fellow faculty members who accompanied him during the evening.
The students see Rabbi Yisrael as a role model. They tell of a devoted and committed teacher, who is able to address them on every subject above and beyond school hours and the material being studied. Rabbi Shalom Malul, the head of the AMIT Ashdod Yeshiva, congratulated Ohayon on the win: “I am happy for the appreciation that Rabbi Yisrael has received, which is a symbol and example of a full-hearted educator, intent only on forming his students into moral adults connected to the people, the Torah, and the land.”
Of the thousands of candidates this year, which was the tenth anniversary of the competition, 15 teachers went to the finals. And at the festive ceremony held last weekend, the six winners of the competition came together, including Rabbi Yisrael Ohayon, and five other outstanding teachers from around the country.
