To mark Lag B’Omer, AMIT students across the country held a special study session and dialogue on the subject of the public’s responsibility to retrieve missing soldiers Hadar Goldin, z”l, and Oron Shaul, z”l, for proper burial in Israel.
In Sderot, the AMIT network’s young leadership group organized the session, which was attended by Goldin’s parents, Simcha and Leah Goldin. Hadar Goldin was an alumnus of AMIT Gwen Straus in Ra’anana.
Simcha Goldin told the crowd that his family was waiting to hear from the country’s decision-makers and that they expected the government to act. He added that there needs to be increased public awareness about the issue.
Alon Davidi, the mayor of Sderot, said that his city and others that border Gaza are indebted to Israeli soldiers including Goldin and Shaul, who fought in Gaza to protect Israeli citizens threatened by Hamas rocket fire.
Rabbi Itamar Haikin, who taught Goldin, said, “They are our soldiers who went to Gaza to fight on our behalf, and we will not forget them until they are returned to Israel.”
