Outstanding students from two AMIT schools for girls recently took part in the Tech Women 2018 conference at the Technion, one of the world’s top science and technology research universities.

The students from Ulpanat AMIT Lehava and AMIT Wasserman Torah, Arts and Sciences Junior High School for Girls, all of whom study math and science at the highest levels, met with female researchers, faculty members, Technion alumnae, and graduate students. They also toured Technion laboratories, where they were introduced to an array of inspiring topics of study and research.

“Our goal is to broaden our students’ horizons and introduce them to the worlds of entrepreneurship, research and science to enable each and every one of them to reach her full potential in whatever field she chooses,” said Rabbi Efraim Zik, head of Ulpanat AMIT Lehava in Kedumim.

About 800 students from across Israel participated in the conference, which encourages outstanding female students to pursue academic studies in science and engineering.

In the Technion’s first class, in 1924, the number of women was 6%: one out of 17 students. Over the years, and especially in the last decade, the number of female students at the university has grown tremendously, and today it stands at about 40% at the undergraduate level and slightly more at the graduate level.
