Students Yeshivat AMIT Nachshon marked the anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, z”l, with a special panel discussion that included Israelis from across the political spectrum. The panel illustrated AMIT’s belief in open and honest dialogue between Israelis of all backgrounds, religious and secular.

The conversation brought participants out of their comfort zones and each of the panelists “succeeded in touching on the sensitive issues that are evoked by the murder of an Israeli prime minister,” Goldman wrote on his Facebook page. “On a personal note,” he added, “I am proud that my sons are studying at a yeshiva that can bring this important discourse into the school.”

The panel included MK Yehuda Glick (Likud), former Peace Now Director Yariv Oppenheimer and MK Shuli Mualem (Habayit Hayehudi). Daniel Goldman, chairman of Gesher—which strives to close the gap between secular and religious Jews in Israel, and promotes shared heritage as the force that unites Israelis—moderated the discussion.
Shuli Mualem, a graduate of what is now AMIT Anna Teich Ulpanat Haifa, also posted about the panel discussion on her Facebook page, where she reflected on the moment she found out about Rabin’s killing.

She said that the message for the future is clear: “We cannot ignore reality or blur our differences—that is how we choose our ides and beliefs,” she wrote. “But we must [adhere to our beliefs] while maintaining clear boundaries within public discourse.”
