The Israel Defense Forces’ Manpower Directorate recently published its annual ranking of cities and schools that “contribute more” to military service—meaning that their recruits join combat units and serve as officers. Yeshivat AMIT Nachshon ranked No. 4 out of all the boys’ schools in Israel (religious and secular), with a 100% enlistment rate; 87% of AMIT Nachshon graduates serve in combat units in the army, with 20% of those serving as officers.
“The yeshiva educates toward greatness, leadership, and making a significant contribution to the state and to Israeli society,” said the yeshiva’s principal, Rabbi Noam Krigman. “It is important to us that our students think big and work for the public. In light of the security threats we face, it is clear that every student must do his best during his military service.”
Avi Dadon, the high school principal at the yeshiva, said that the school prides itself on educating students to contribute to the greater good.
He said that students who organize an assembly to show solidarity for Avera Mengistu, the troubled young man who crossed into the Gaza Strip and is being held by Hamas, will inevitably become outstanding soldiers and officers. “Most importantly, they will become excellent citizens, and that is our goal,” he said.
In addition to the yeshiva, several AMIT girls’ schools also made the list of Top 10 religious girls’ schools with the highest enlistment rates.
AMIT Bellows Ulpanat Noga came in at No. 7, AMIT Technological High School, Carmiel came in at No. 8, and AMIT Renanim came in at No. 10.
Dr. Amnon Eldar, the director general of AMIT, praised the schools, especially Yeshivat AMIT Nachshon, saying they instill the values of the love of Israel and Torah in students. “When giving is a central tenet, these excellent figures come as no surprise,” he said.
