Tomer Segev, a student at the AMIT Gwen Straus Science and Technology High School in Kfar Batya, Ra’anana, won second place in the national start-up championship this week. The championship, the first of its kind in Israel, was held under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with Israeli high-tech companies and venture capital funds. Participating in the competition were students from computer majors from all over the country, who participated in a program run by the Taasiya Association, where they learned how to manage and promote a start-up. The program was accompanied by a virtual mentor, a start-up entrepreneur himself, Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who presented the students with a photographed corner with tips for advancing their start-ups.

In the finals held last week at the offices of Microsoft in Herzliya, AMIT Gwen Straus student Tomer Segev won second place after impressing the judges with an app he developed, called 2FOR1 – an application designed to solve communication problems among family members in families where parents are divorced.

Tomer Segev commented, “For me, winning is the beginning of a challenging and fascinating path. On a personal level, I believe that if you have something burning within in you, something you want to change, do it. No one else will do it instead of you. ”

Rabbi Sagi Rosenbaum, principal of AMIT Gwen Straus, congratulated Tomer on the achievement: “We believe in maximizing the talents and abilities of each of our students. We are confident that Tomer is at the beginning of a fascinating road in the world of hi-tech and development.”
