Bracha Amrousi, a math teacher at the AMIT Gwen Straus Junior and Senior Science High School for Boys, was named one of six “teachers of the nation” at a festive ceremony this week that was attended by President Reuven Rivlin and other dignitaries.

The competition to crown Israel’s top educators is sponsored by the teachers’ union and Yedioth Ahronoth. The winners were awarded certificates of appreciation, new laptops, and the opportunity to register for prestigious courses in the United States.

During the ceremony, Amrousi’s students and fellow teachers praised her as a mother figure at the school. They thanked her for her dedication that goes beyond the classroom and school hours.

Amrousi not only works to ensure every student succeeds in math, she also organizes educational collaborations that teach students life skills, including a joint program she spearheaded with children hospitalized at the nearby Loewenstein Rehabilitation Center in Ra’anana.

“Bracha invests all of her energies on behalf of the students,” said Yaron Carmi, the principal of Gwen Straus’ law and society track (who was also recognized as a teacher of the nation in 2015). “She is a symbol of dedication and significant contribution made for the advancement and growth of our students.”

Thousands of teachers from across Israel competed for the title of teacher of the nation this year. Fifteen made it to the finals, where the six, including Amrousi, were announced.
