As the Sukkot holiday draws near, AMIT Network’s “AMIT Builds Sukkot” project is once again underway. Using social media, AMIT students invite those in their communities in need of assistance putting up a sukkah to contact them. Teams of student volunteers are then dispatched to build sukkot for those that have requested help. Their goal is to ensure that throughout the city everyone experiences a joyous Sukkot holiday.
The posts have generated a lot of demand, including requests from single-parent families, the infirm, and the elderly, including Holocaust survivors. One of the many AMIT schools participating in this holiday chesed initiative again this year, is AMIT Ashdod Yeshiva High School. Yosef Tapuchi, a student there, said: “I really enjoyed this work. It gave me a great sense of satisfaction to help other people with the mitzvah of building a sukkah so that their holiday can be happy.”
Rabbi Shalom Malul, from the Rosh Yeshiva, added: “The most important thing is that our boys do this with great joy. We are proud of our students who jumped at the opportunity to participate in this wonderful project, which combines chesed with unity and love of one’s fellow Jews — which is actually one of the symbols of the Arba Minim (the Four Species) of the holiday.”
Dr. Amnon Eldar, Director General of the AMIT Network, said: “The holiday of Sukkot is a symbol of joy and brotherhood, especially in the days of Covid and the challenges that accompany it. Seeing our students’ sense of responsibility for helping others prepare for this holiday is heartwarming.”
