The basketball team at Yeshivat AMIT Amichai Rehovot recently packed food baskets – instead of shooting baskets – for needy families in Rehovot and nearby communities.
Teams in the yeshiva high school basketball league each chose a community service project. The AMIT Amichai team chose to help the organization Chesdei Irit that distributes food baskets to needy families every week. Team members, along with their physical education teacher, spent hours working together and packing over three hundred food baskets for distribution.
Avichai Buskila, an 11th grader and member of the basketball team, has been volunteering with Chesdei Irit for over two years. “Distributing 300 baskets of fruits and vegetables every week is not something to be taken lightly,” said Avichai. “Our basketball team worked together just like we do on the court. It was an amazing feeling.”
