The gathering was part of a “Preparation for Life” program, which helps students build practical skills for the years ahead. After learning about financial responsibility, the students asked to focus on something more personal and hands-on: cooking.
Grandmothers traveled from Eilat, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem, to spend the day cooking side by side with their granddaughters and their classmates. Each one brought a traditional recipe, sharing ingredients and techniques, stories and memories, as the kitchen filled with the sounds and smells of favorite dishes being prepared and generations connecting.
Each grandmother received a photo and personalized apron as a token of appreciation. Students also created a cookbook for the class with all the recipes, including ones from grandmothers who could not attend and staff members.
The memorable day made a real impact on many students. “I saw my grandmother in a different light,” shared one student. “I heard stories I had never heard before. I saw the strength she carries, and I understood more clearly who she is and where I come from.”
