Update from Israel #36

We have now lost 57 AMIT alumni. These devastating losses weigh heavily on all of us.

It is with immense pain and profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that two more of our alumni, Sergeant Omri Cohen, z”l, a graduate of Yeshivat AMIT Yagel in Ashdod, and Captain Sagi Rubenstein, z”l, a graduate of Yeshivat AMIT Kfar Ganim, have fallen in the war.

We would like to share a moving video of Rabbi Shalom Malul, principal of Yeshivat AMIT Yagel, as he delivers a eulogy for Sergeant Omri Cohen, z”l, at his funeral. Rabbi Shalom has been on active duty since October 7, serving at Camp Shura, where the bodies of those lost that tragic day, as well as fallen soldiers since, are brought for the sacred process of tahara (ritual purification) before burial. Rabbi Shalom had the privilege and honor of performing tahara for his former student and later eulogized him at the funeral.

In this video, you can sense the extraordinary bond between our educators and their students. These relationships, built on love, devotion, and shared purpose, are at the heart of what makes AMIT so unique. Rabbi Shalom’s leadership reflects this deep connection and commitment, embodying the ultimate purpose and mission of our network.

We draw strength from the resilience of our people and the values that unite us. May the memory of our fallen inspire us to continue building a future for our children, filled with light, hope, and purpose.

We pray for better days ahead for the people of Israel and for peace to prevail.
