In preparation for the Jewish High Holidays, 10th and 12th grade students attending AMIT Wasserman Junior and Senior High School, Beer Sheva, volunteered to organize food packages for 500 families spanning the city.
Three giant trucks came to the school’s parking lot to deliver many boxes of produce. The fruits and vegetables were donated by farmers from kibbutzim and moshavim throughout the south.
The students, led by the school’s social projects coordinators, packed bags of fruits and vegetables and crates of basic grocery staples that were then distributed to families in need.
Amit Gabbay, a 12th grade student, shared: “It was important to begin the new school year with an act that helped others. I enjoyed helping out with the packing. It was great to do something like this at the start of 12th grade, which is a very important year filled with exams. Rather than start off with studying straight away, we were able to start by helping others.”
Tzuriel Robbins, principal of AMIT Wasserman, added: “Volunteering is an excellent way to prepare for the High Holidays. This activity gave our students the uplifting feeling that comes from doing for others. May we always merit to be among the givers.”
