Once again, an AMIT school has been recognized for excellence. Yona Kanino, principal of AMIT Kol Yaakov in Yerucham, was awarded the National Religious Education Prize this week. This is a double win for AMIT as Yona was also a student in Kol Yaakov and is herself a product of its success.
“The story of Kol Yaakov is the story of my life and the stops along the way on my personal and family journey. My personal and professional development alongside raising my kids and family in Yerucham, are intertwined with the story of the growth and development of Kol Yaakov, which has been a second home to me and to them for the past almost four decades. AMIT Kol Yaakov is where I got my first knowledge, wisdom, and midot (character traits). I eventually returned and for 36 years I have held many roles in the school: Teaching, different coordinator roles, vice-principal, and for the past 26 years I have had the merit to lead the school.”
When Yona began as principal, the school had only 140 students. “I am happy and proud to lead the only National Religious elementary school in Yerucham, which numbers close to 750 students! Despite its growth, Kol Yaakov has retained its feeling of being a place that is like home, family, warm and loving. A place where everyone feels loved and wanted. AMIT Kol Yaakov is daily proof that togetherness is what wins. Connecting between different parts is a power that causes growth and productivity.”
