A good deed doesn’t go unnoticed.

Dori B., a 12th grader at AMIT Mr. & Mrs. Lester Sutker Arts and Sciences Jr. and Sr. High School for Boys in Modiin, won the citywide top volunteer award that was given to him at a recent ceremony honoring teenage volunteers in the city.

The recognition underscores one of AMIT’s core values of chesed, that is, giving back to the community and doing good for one’s fellow.

Dori spent two years as a madrich in the B’nei Akiva Youth Movement. This year, he continued as a coordinator for the Nachshon Team, a team of older teens who are responsible for social events and volunteering in the area.

Since starting high school, Dori has volunteered at the Keshet after-school program for low and mid-level functioning children and teens on the autism spectrum. He also spent many of his vacations volunteering in its camps and programs.

“I enjoy myself every place where I volunteer,” said Dori, who received his award from Modiin Mayor Chaim Bibas. “I feel lucky to be part of amazing endeavors like the Nachshon Team and the after-school program. I believe that people who do not volunteer miss out, so the truth is that I should not be receiving a prize or recognition but saying thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this.”

Lior HaLevi, principal of AMIT Sutker Modiin High School for Boys, says that Dori’s decision to give so much of his time to help others and be involved with giving and contributing to various causes is inspiring, and he and his friends who volunteer should be thanked, appreciated and recognized for all that they do.
