There was a feeling of excitement, pride, and accomplishment among the class of 13 students, 11 young men and two young women. The majority will begin their military service in the IDF or do National Service in the coming year. One student, who has a medical exemption, will be working as a teaching assistant at the Junior College.

Set on the campus of AMIT Elaine Silver Technological High School in Beersheva, the Junior College offers a two-year program in computer communications. It also is the first co-ed computer training college that helps young women enter the growing technological field.

Graduates who will begin military service will use their newly acquired skills to help operate and maintain the IDF’s computer systems. About a third will serve in the Technology and Maintenance Corp., a third in the IAF, and a third in the Combat Service Support unit. Several already have been identified as potential future officers by the IDF.

As they will be licensed computer technicians, these young men and women will play a critical role in helping the Israeli army maintain its advanced computer systems.

AMIT Elaine Silver Junior College also offers a media design track as another vocational option. It is the first junior college of its kind in the south of Israel and serves graduates of the AMIT Elaine Silver Vocational High School and other high schools in the region.
