AMIT students celebrated Yom Yerushalayim, which commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem after the Six-Day War, in fun, moving, and creative ways.

More than 23,000 – an impressive number – took part in a Reshet-wide virtual program for the students – an escape room-style game with virtual tours of 11 Jerusalem sites – Mount Herzl, Yad V’Shem, Machane Yehuda Market, Nachlaot, Jaffa Gate, Memorial for the Fallen Defenders of the Jewish Quarter in 1948, The Kotel, Mishkenot Sha’ananim neighborhood, Knesset and Menorah, Israel Museum, and City of David. It featured virtual interactions with important personalities and riddles to solve. Students were able to choose basic or advanced tracks.

Earlier this week, 15 AMIT schools gathered virtually to hear Alon Wald, a member of Ammunition Hill’s administration, speak. His father, Ram

i Wald, z”l, was killed on Ammunition Hill, the site of one of the fiercest battles during the 1967 war, when Alon was 10 months old. Ammunition Hill was a fortified Jordanian military post in the northern part of Jordanian-ruled East Jerusalem and the western slope of Mount Scopus. Today it is a national memorial site.

“What a wonderful and moving talk,” said Chaya Atgayiv, the informal education coordinator at AMIT Shachar Jr. and Sr. HS, Beit Shemesh. “It was so valuable that a program could take place despite the challenges of this time period. What an experience to meet with so many different schools and share this.”

The students have also had a chance to share their creative side in an AMIT-wide art contest where they drew their vision of the Israeli flag. Winners are soon to be announced.

Happy Yom Yerushalayim!
