Seniors at AMIT Technological High School in Ashdod recently organized a blood drive at the school as part of their mission to give back to the community and help others.
The school’s student council spearheaded the drive along with Deputy Principal Bezalel Zarbiv. They spread the word about the initiative among fellow students and faculty, called the blood bank to set up a mobile blood drive at the school, and even helped the paramedics collect the donations. Dozens of students and teachers literally rolled up their sleeves and pitched in for the special effort.
“It was very moving to see so many students volunteer to donate blood,” said Zarbiv, adding that those who were too young to take part were disappointed.
The effort is part of what AMIT is all about – giving back to the community and caring for one another and Klal Yisrael.
Uriel A., head of the student council, said that he donated blood and persuaded others to as well. “There isn’t enough of supply at the blood bank, and every one of these donations could help save a life,” he said.
Sima Peretz, AMIT Technological’s principal, said she was extremely proud of the students and their effort. “We at AMIT Technological High School view giving back to the community as the heart of education. Our students participate in various volunteer and chesed initiatives, and they just had the privilege of donating their blood for others’ health. We are very proud of them.”
