Message to AMIT Girls: The Sky’s the Limit!

How high can you fly? As high as your dreams take you. That was the message that students at AMIT Shachar Junior and Senior High School recently got from Aisha Bowe, the American aeronautical engineer and the founder and CEO of technology company, STEMBoard, who told them to reach for the stars.

How high can you fly? As high as your dreams take you.

That was the message that students at AMIT Shachar Junior and Senior High School recently got from Aisha Bowe, the American aeronautical engineer and the founder and CEO of technology company, STEMBoard, who told them to reach for the stars.

Bowe shared her own story of humble beginnings. She told them about how she grew up in a modest home with immigrant parents from the Bahamas and went on to study aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan. She landed a job at NASA, where she served as liaison to the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program. There, she mentored students, held interview workshops, and led NASA site tours.

Her message to the young women at AMIT Shachar underscores the mission of AMIT schools, which aims to empower girls to became Israel’s future leaders and offers a STEM-centric curriculum that enables them to launch 21st-century careers in high-tech, mathematics, and scientific-based fields. AMIT’s strong STEM curriculum and its commitment to strong female encouragement gives girls on the socioeconomic and geographical periphery access to an education leading to a future that they might otherwise not dream about.

Bowe founded her company, STEMBoard, with the aim of encouraging young women and minorities to pursue science and technology careers, and she speaks to students around the world about the limitless opportunities they offer.

At AMIT Shachar in Beit Shemesh, Bowe encouraged these girls to set high goals for themselves and to view education as the foundation for success. American diplomat Lisa Wishman and the school’s English faculty helped to coordinate Bowe’s visit as part of AMIT Shachar’s relationship with the American Embassy in Israel.

It was a meeting that left the students feeling sky high.
