AMIT Bet High School, Ashkelon’s entrepreneurship team came in 1st place at the National Youth Competition for Social Entrepreneurship, produced by Unistream.
The competition which took place at the Tel Aviv cultural center gathered hundreds of students from across the country who developed startup concepts around protecting the environment and children.
The students identified the need to limit wasteful diaper changes in infants and toddlers. They developed the idea for a smart diaper that identifies a child’s activities and can detect when a diaper change is needed.
The Unistream program granted the students at AMIT Bet Ashkelon marketing and business development support and expertise. This program is supported by a partnership with the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles and the Ashkelon-Baltimore partnership for encouraging youth business development.
Lead by the guidance of Maayan Zweig, a business liaison and social impact expert and Harel Lichtman, the director of the Southern region at Unistream, the AMIT Bet biochemistry track students created a bio-medical startup and each student was assigned a responsibility in the company including administration, development, and marketing. After presenting their startup to the Unistream panel of judges and receiving advice and guidance for their creation, the students at AMIT Bet Ashkelon were chosen to compete in the competition with their environmentally friendly diaper.
The AMIT Bet students conducted in-depth research of the technology and market value of their product, created a timeline and explored partnership opportunities and advanced to the National finals where they competed against 20 other excellent teams in the Start Up Now category of the competition.
For the final event, the AMIT students presented their startup in front of Israel’s top business professionals. After impressing the judges with their tech-based business model, they claimed first place for their excellent marketing idea.
The students are currently working on fundraising to support continuing the development of the product.
