Hundreds of students from AMIT Hammer in Rehovot turned their school into a “chesed factory” ahead of Rosh Hashanah, raising funds to buy holiday supplies for 250 needy families in their community.
The students raised more than $2,800, which they used to buy food and other provisions to help those families have a sweet new year.
Rabbi Rafi Maimon, the school’s principal, said of the boys’ efforts: “There is no greater preparation for Rosh Hashanah than students investing their time and energy to ensure that other families will have a chag sameach.”
AMIT Hammer, which has undergone an incredible transformation in recent years from a struggling school to an outstanding one, recently won the Education Ministry’s national prize for educational excellence, beating out dozens of other schools across Israel being considered for the prestigious award.
Maimon received the top honor from Education Minister Naftali Bennett.
