Hundreds of parents, students, and teachers attended the festive graduation of Yeshivat AMIT Ashdod’s first graduating class this week.
Yehiel Lasry, the mayor of Ashdod, attended the graduation and said that opening a yeshiva high school was one of the most important decisions he has made as mayor. He added that Yeshivat AMIT Ashdod has exceeded everyone’s best expectations.
After all the greetings, the school’s choir sang some celebratory songs in honor of the graduates, who chose to end their studies with a joint lesson of mishnayot.
Rabbi Shalom Malool, the head of the yeshiva, said that his heart was “filled with pride and prayer—pride in the first graduating class that will serve as a guidepost for those that follow, and prayer for the success of the graduates in whatever they choose to do.”
Yeshivat AMIT Ashdod welcomed its first class of 25 7th-grade students in September 2012. It serves a diverse student body, including gifted as well as challenged students, who are united by their commitment to Torah learning. Yeshivat AMIT Ashdod strives for excellence in all aspects of school life, and chesed and community involvement are an integral part of the school’s philosophy.
