Students from AMIT Kiryat Malachi Jr. and Sr. High School took the top spot at the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, beating dozens of other Israeli schools—including another AMIT school that came in second place—and advancing to the international competition, which will take place online.

The contest is held in cooperation with the Atidim Project and aims to promote science and technology studies among students in Israel’s periphery. It introduces participants to scientific principles through research and experimentation.

Teams from all over the country had to build a creative machine that achieved two goals: the first is demonstrating at least four scientific principles, such as mechanics, momentum, optics, electric motors, chemistry, and heat; the second is using those scientific principles to pour a bowl of cereal.

The team from AMIT Kennedy Junior and Senior High School came in second place and is also advancing to the international stage of the competition.
