Several AMIT schools prepared for the Jewish New Year by undertaking chesed projects within their communities, underscoring the emphasis that the network places on volunteer work and doing good for those who are less fortunate.
At Yeshivat AMIT Nachshon in Mateh Yehuda, each grade chose a different project to focus on: one grade gave the school’s yard and shelter a thorough makeover; another grade packed food for the needy; and yet another volunteered with two charities in Jerusalem that help Holocaust survivors and the poor.
Students at AMIT Hammer Junior and Senior High School for Boys in Rehovot raised more than 10,000 shekels and bought holiday supplies and food for 150 families who couldn’t afford them, making it a sweet new year for all.
Meanwhile, at AMIT Bet Ashkelon Junior & Senior High School, students decided to give moral support to the nurses and medical staff at the city’s Barzilai Medical Center. The hospital is facing an employee shortage since part of its staff left to work at another recently opened hospital in Ashdod. The students made uplifting signs and handed out chocolate flowers to the surprised hospital staffers.
Yeshivat AMIT Ashdod students planned a “chesed happening,” in which they also prepared cartons and bags of food for the elderly and the needy. Some visited a local hospital with goodie bags full of surprises for sick children, while others handed out holiday gifts to municipal street cleaners.
All in all, AMIT students made the start of the new year wonderful for so many people, and personified the Jewish values that are taught at AMIT schools every day.
