Two principals representing the AMIT Network traveled to Paris recently to visit Jewish schools and participate in an Aliyah Fair sponsored by the Jewish Agency. Rabbi Yuval Elimelech, principal of AMIT Bar Ilan Netanya High School, and Ido Aharonovich, principal of AMIT Yud Ashdod High School, have already facilitated the smooth transition from France to Israel for dozens of families. The two told prospective new immigrants about programs at their schools created to welcome and absorb immigrant children and their families as quickly and easily as possible.
Dr. Amnon Eldar, Director General of the AMIT Network in Israel, said that since its inception ninety years ago, AMIT has been successfully meeting the Zionist challenge of the day. Dr. Eldar said that absorption of immigrant children from France is a national undertaking and the AMIT Network is doing its part in this important mission.
Nearly 10,000 French Jews, adults and children, are expected to make Aliyah this summer. The Aliyah Fair was held in four different areas of Paris and attracted a very large audience. The principals visited Jewish schools and spoke with French Jewish educators to learn about the educational background of French immigrant children and the best way serve them once they come to Israel. Ido Aharonvich sees his part in absorbing immigrants from France as a great honor. “We want to be a warm and welcoming school for Israel’s new citizens,” said Aharonovich.
