Four teachers and four students from AMIT schools across the country were recently awarded certificates of excellence at an event marking 70 years of education in Israel. President Reuven Rivlin, Education Minister Naftali Bennett, and Education Ministry Director-General Shmuel Abuav attended the festive ceremony in Jerusalem.

The teachers recognized for their outstanding pedagogical methods and devotion to their students are Shabtai Yogev, a math teacher at AMIT Bet Ashkelon; Batsheva Roesh, pedagogical coordinator at AMIT Wasserman Torah, Arts and Sciences Junior High School for Girls in Ma’ale Adumim; Keren Bitton, English teacher at AMIT Torani Madai Netivei Am Elementary School in Beersheva; and Erez Naim, a special education teacher at AMIT HaElah Elementary School in Nechusha.

The students who received the special awards are Yonatan Hamburger, from Yeshivat AMIT Nachshon; Yaakov Wovenach, a student at AMIT Dvir Junior and Senior High School for Boys; Zohar Yifrach, a student at AMIT Hemed Matityahu Zalfon; and Reuven Tegegne, who attends Yeshivat AMIT Eliraz.

Hamburger organized an event to raise awareness about Avera Mengistu, an Israeli citizen being held captive in Gaza. Yifrach develops educational games for children, while Tegegne is active on the school and municipal student councils.

Rabbi Yair Chetboun, principal of AMIT Eliraz, said that Reuven is developing into a significant leader who initiates projects that improve the lives of students and members of his community.

Principal Erez Braun of AMIT Dvir said that the school is proud of Yaakov on his achievement.

“Yaakov sets an example of personal, class-wide, and school-wide responsibility combined with significant contribution to the community,” he said. “At the same time, he also strives toward excellence both academically and in terms of his values.”

“Through their social and educational activities, these outstanding teachers and students represent the spirit of excellence and innovative education within the AMIT network,” said Amnon Eldar, AMIT’s director general.
