On this Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember Holocaust survivor Grzegorz Pawlowski. My husband will tell you that I cannot talk about this story without crying.
Grzegorz Pawlowski was a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust who became a priest. The last request he made of Rav Shalom Malul, the principal of AMIT Ashdod Boy’s High School, and a devoted friend, was to have a Jewish burial. As he expressed to Rav Shalom, “I was born a Jew, I lived as a Catholic, I want to die as a Jew”. Not simple to bring a group of Israeli students to Catholic Poland to make this happen. But that’s exactly what Rav Shalom and his students did.
I hope that in our lives we are all blessed with opportunities to do meaningful acts of kindness and have the wherewithal to recognize that, no matter the degree of difficulty, they are worth doing.
