Students from AMIT Kennedy Junior and Senior High School came in second place in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, beating dozens of other schools across Israel and advancing to the international competition, which will take place online.

The contest is held in cooperation with the Atidim Project, and aims to promote science and technology studies among students in Israel’s periphery. It introduces participants to scientific principles through research and experimentation.

Teams from all over the country had to build a creative machine that achieved two goals: the first is demonstrating at least four scientific principles, such as mechanics, momentum, optics, electric motors, chemistry, and heat; the second is using those scientific principles to pour a bowl of cereal.

The teams from AMIT Kennedy in Acco comprised students from 8th and 9th grades. They created a machine that reflected Israel’s 70 years of innovation and its space program, impressing the judges with their originality and sophistication.

Etti Zabary, principal of AMIT Kennedy, praised teachers Ora Eisenberg, Tzvika Leibowitz and the school’s physics team. The students’ success “proved that there is no goal they can not achieve.”
