At the beginning of the new year, the students attending AMIT’s Sderot Religious Junior and Senior High School decided to increase the number of mitzvot and good deeds they participate in yearly.
To begin, they dedicated a full day to charity. The morning started with conversations between students and teachers about the importance of charity. Next, the students heard Col. Uri Shechter speak on the topic of kindness as a way of life.
In the afternoon, the students packed food baskets for needy families in collaboration with the local Chabad center and the ‘One Family’ project of the Yohannoff network.
Yonatan Toito, a student at the school, shared: “Besides the fun and camaraderie in the class, you should always remember there are those who don’t have enough and need help.”
Rabbi Israel Ohion, head of the yeshiva, explains: “The greatest thing in the world is to do a favor for someone else – this is the yeshiva’s motto. We try to emphasize this in the month of Elul.”
