Recently, a very special siyum of a masechet of Gemara was held in Ma’ale Adumim. The siyum was held at the “Makom BaLev” Orthodox Union Youth Center by students from AMIT Eitan High School for Boys in Ma’aleh Adumim. The students, alumni of the center and recent high school graduates, were the founders of the shiur. This is the second year of the shiur led by Rav Ayal Mamon, counselor at the youth center, and he explained: “This isn’t just another shiur that you come to pass the time. When they graduated from the youth center I assumed the shiur would end too, especially because this is a very busy time as they prepare for the army. But it was the students who insisted, and they never missed a shiur. I don’t know if I would have been able to do that myself.”
Rav Koren Moridi, director of the youth center, said, “It is very moving to see these students in the shiur. Nobody is forcing them to be here, and it is very rare that any of them are missing. This is real devotion and self-sacrifice of their personal time. Instead of using their time to rest or go out, these amazing alumni have chosen to sit and learn Torah. To succeed they need a very high level of self-discipline, and I am proud of them. I want to thank the administrators at AMIT who have been partners with us the entire journey.”
