Update #5 From AMIT

With so much uncertainty as we start the week, AMIT remains steadfast in its mission to help heal those around us.

AMIT’s Crisis Response: Sderot’s Evacuation

On Friday, October 13th, the Israeli government determined that all Sderot must be evacuated with a significant number of residents moving to temporary housing in the Dead Sea region. As AMIT is responsible for the education of all students in Sderot, AMIT opened a school for Sderot children in the Dead Sea. Trauma services are being transferred with schooling to the area. AMIT continues to adapt and meet our children’s needs, wherever they are, as new scenarios arise in Israel.

Educator Psychological Training

Yossi Berstein, a clinical psychologist, met with AMIT’s educational staff over the weekend to provide guidance and training for childhood trauma. He was uniquely qualified, especially with his family’s connection to AMIT. Yossi’s father was a Holocaust survivor and one of the early students at AMIT’s Kfar Blatt. Yossi’s mother was a student at AMIT Kfar Batya. They became a surrogate couple at Kfar Blatt.

Jewish Prayer on AMIT TV

Today we celebrate the new month of Cheshvan. Despite the current situation, AMIT couldn’t let Rosh Chodesh go by without celebrating a festive Hallel. Two parallel musical Hallel prayer services, one for boys with the singer Aharon Razael, and another for girls with the famous Netanel Sisters, were broadcast on AMIT TV with more than 1,000 students participating.

You can watch the broadcasts here.

Acts of Chesed

We continued to be impressed by our AMIT students’ spirit of volunteerism and giving back – even during the most challenging times. Our Modi’in school youth leaders designed and printed “AMIT Am Yisrael Chai” banners to hang outside local homes and businesses. Within two hours, all 5,000 banners were given out and displayed.

Never Forgotten

Lior Chadad-Attias was a 36-year-old graduate of AMIT Hallel Rehovot, a veterinarian, wife, and mother of a six-year-old daughter. She was serving as an ELEM Youth in Distress professional volunteer at the party in Re’im. Missing since the attack, her body was identified today.
