Signal Fires is a novel that spans 50 kaleidoscope years. The story opens on a summer night in 1985, where three teenagers have been drinking and one of them gets behind the wheel of a car, causing everything on Division Street to change. The lives of each of the teenagers and that of Ben Wilf, a young doctor who arrives on the scene, are shattered. The novel is an urgent and compassionate story that is a literary tour de force by a masterful storyteller at the height of her powers.
